The Cowboys struggled to keep up with the TCU Horned Frogs for much of the game tonight. Over the final nineteen minutes of the game, the Cowboys were not able to cut the deficit to less than six points.

Jeffrey Carroll led the way for the Pokes tonight with 18 points on 5-of-14 shooting. Four of his makes were from the three-point line. Cam McGriff had a great game off the bench, he filled up the stat sheet tonight with 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, four steals and four blocks.

In his return back the lineup for Oklahoma State, Kendall Smith had 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting in 28 minutes of action.

The Horned Frogs had four players in double figures, their leading scorers with Alex Robinson and Kenrich Williams who both had 13 points. As a team, TCU shot 55 percent, as opposed to Oklahoma State’s 41 percent.

It was the same song, different verse as the Cowboys went into the locker room at the half down by five points. While this wasn’t the leads they’ve had in the past, it was a winnable game. Then the the second half started and TCU ran away with it. They shot 16-of-26 from the paint and 3-for-5 from the 3-point line. Meanwhile OSU went cold again in the second half going 12-of-27 from the paint and 3-of-7 from the arc. It was simply a matter of them running out of gas.

The shooting in the second half continues to be an issue for the Cowboys. Shots are there but just aren’t falling. It’s been talked about game after game. I couldn’t tell your if comfort or complacency or what but something is up.

With this loss, the Cowboys are most likely out of the NCAA tournament. This was a must-win. And the schedule just gets harder with KU to play twice still and UT on the road. The Big 12 is an unforgiving monster of a conference.

However Cade made a really good point on Twitter:

This isn’t the end of the world. And it’s most certainly not the time to give up on Boynton. But you guys already know how I feel about that so I won’t talk about that much here.

The Cowboys take on Kansas in Lawrence this weekend. Allen Fieldhouse would be a great place to get your first Big 12 road win, I’m just gonna throw that out there.

Go Pokes!
