Four-Star Guard Marcus Watson Commits to Oklahoma State

The talented Georgia prospect picks the Pokes over Georgia Tech

After a week of anticipation, and a tweet from Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton that got the entire Cowboy fan base excited, we now know where talented four-star shooting guard Marcus Watson will play his college ball.

The 4-star prospect from Buford, Georgia announced his commitment to Oklahoma State on Sunday night.

It had been down to OSU, Georgia Tech, Oregon, and Texas Tech for the last month, after Watson named those schools in his Top-4. Georgia Tech had been the favorite to land the 2nd-ranked player in the state of Georgia for awhile. Yellow Jacket head coach Josh Pastner made Watson one of their top priority targets, and had worked to build a strong relationship with the in-state prospect.

But, despite getting in on Watson late, Boynton was able to pull off landing the 8th-ranked shooting guard in the nation, and pulling him away from the in-state favorites. Being cousins probably didn’t hurt, but Boynton has now established a track record of getting talented players.

The news does leave one question for OSU; where will they get the scholarship? Coach Boynton had filled his available scholarship allotment for 2019 already with the Boone twins — Kalib and Keylan — and Avery Anderson. There’s always the possibility someone on the roster makes an unexpected exit. And of course there is still the Michael Weathers situation to keep an eye on. (You can read more about the situation here from Nathan Ruiz.)

Watson is now the 3rd 4-star recruit to join the 2019 class and will likely vault it back to the top of the Big 12 and into the Top-10 nationally.
