Recap: Cowboy Basketball collapses in 66-64 loss to Charlotte

The Cowboys simply fell apart in their first game of the season

NCAA Basketball: Big 12 Conference Tournament-Kansas v Oklahoma State Amy Kontras-USA TODAY Sports

The Cowboys had a 24 point lead in the second half but went cold for too long and gave it up to end up losing the game 66-64.

In the first half the Cowboys would come out quick and go up 7-0 before Charlotte’s Milos Supica would score 2 for their first points of the game. The Cowboys would end the half up 37-19, shooting 65 percent from beyond the arc. Thomas Dziagwa and Lindy Waters were each in double digit point totals to end the half with 12 points and 10 points respectively. All in all the first half was what you want to see from the first game of the year from a young team. They were making shots, getting fowls and making their free throws. Malik Martin would lead Charlotte with 10 points at the half.

What this game came down to was 7 minutes and 26 seconds at the end of the second with not a single three made. They would go up by 24 with 12 minutes and 58 second to go in the game when the struggles scoring started. Issac Likekele would finally score a layup with 7 minutes and 36 seconds left. They would make more layups but Charlotte just wouldn’t go down without a fight. At the end of the game, there would be a flagrant foul on the Cowboys and John Davis would make all three free throws and then score a three with .6 seconds left to bring us to the end of the game with the 66-64 score.

Mcgriff would end the game with at team-leading 17 points, Lindy Waters and Thomas Dzigawa would end the game with 15 each. Issac Likekele would be the other Poke that would end the game with double digits after scoring 10 points.

This game was a teaching moment for this team. You can’t ever get comfortable on an opposing court.

Next up the Cowboys will play UTSA in Gallagher-Iba Arena on November 14.
