Vanessa Shippy Claims Big 12 Softball POTW

This past weekend, Cowgirl softball opened its season in Arizona at the Kajikawa Classic. The Cowgirls went 4-1, only dropping its first game 8-2 to Oregon State.

The Cowgirls had an impressive 9-4 upset win over No. 7 Arizona, then beat Missouri 6-3. The last two games against New Mexico and Western Michigan were absolute demolitions, with the orange and black winning 13-1 over the Lobos and 21-5 over the Broncos.

Senior utility player Vanessa Shippy was a one-woman wrecking crew in Tempe. Shippy went 11-for-13 with two home runs, five walks, six RBIs and nine runs. The five walks broke the OSU career walks record.

For her efforts, the Big 12 named Shippy the Big 12 Player of the Week.

Through one week of play, Shippy leads the Big 12 Conference in batting average (.836), on-base percentage (895), hits (11), walks (5), runs scored (9) and total bases (17). She also ranks in the top five among players in the league in slugging percentage (1.308), runs batted in (6) and home runs (2).

Kaylee Jensen Claims Big 12 Women’s Basketball POTW

Shippy isn’t the only Cowgirl impressing across the conference. Kaylee Jensen led the Cowgirls to two road wins over No. 24 TCU and Iowa State last week.

Jensen collected double-doubles in both contests, No. 40 and 41 in her career. Against the Horned Frogs, Jensen had 22 poins, 16 rebounds and five blocks. Against Iowa State, Jensen set a career-high with 35 points on 12-of-18 shooting and 11-of-14 from the free throw line. She scored 16 straight points for the Cowgirls in the fourth quarter. She also had 12 rebounds, three blocks and an assist in the win.

The stellar senior received the Big 12 Player of the Week award for the second time this season, with the last one coming on Jan. 2.

Doug Gottlieb Opens Up

When you hear the name “Doug Gottlieb” you probably think of the numerous assists he had while rocking the Cursive Cowboy uniforms back around the turn of the century.

However, Gottlieb is also known for a much worse thing. While at Notre Dame, he stole credit cards and battled depression.

He opened up and wrote about it for The Athletic. It’s worth the read, as Doug divlulges details about his dark past and how it has shaped him to be what he is today.

Football Spring Game Set

While Oklahoma State doesn’t play Missouri State in Boone Pickens Stadium for 200 more days exactly, we do have a slight relief to whet our football appetite at the end of April.

That’s right. It’s the Spring Game.

The 2018 will kick off at 1 p.m. from Boone Pickens Stadium. The Cowboy Baseball team will be taking on OU at 7 p.m. in Tulsa that night, so why not make it a doubleheader and spend your Saturday watching the Pokes?
