James Washington signs 4-year contract with Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced early Saturday morning that they had signed James Washington, the second-round pick from the 2018 NFL Draft.

Washington signed a four-year contract with the organization.

The reigning Biletnikoff winner is the fourth of seven Steelers’ draft picks to sign rookie contracts with the team. Mason Rudolph is one of the three unsigned picks, but all seven rookies are taking part in minicamp, according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

Randy Fichtner, PIttsburgh’s offensive coordinator, had high praise for the wideout in the press release.

“Tough guy, runs fast, scores touchdowns,” said Fichtner. “If you look you see a lot of long catches. He likes to go down the yard. That is a need we were looking for. We are excited to have him. He runs fast and is powerful. He has a knack for getting down the yard.

“He is well-conditioned. He plays strong. He is not one of those high maintenance guys. He is no maintenance. He is intelligent. We would expect he would have the ability to come in, learn and hold down a position pretty quickly.”
