WATCH: Cowboy Football corner A.J. Green announces switch to basketball (satire)

The rising star defensive back seeks to follow true passion on the court.

Who could have seen this coming?

After a fantastic sophomore campaign that saw Green tie for second in the Big 12 with four interceptions, AJ Green has decided to call it quits (at least for the spring) in the orange end zones of Boone Pickens Stadium, in favor of the hallowed white maple of Gallagher-Iba Arena. He alluded to the switch in a tweet on Monday:

We are sad to see him go after seeing his promising playmaking ability in the defensive backfield, but look forward to him bringing his supreme athleticism to the backcourt.

It is unclear whether the scholarship will count against the basketball or football team, but it is clear than Green has an incredible feel for the game, and his smooth jumper is sure to bring the old barn back to its 6381-seat days. Don’t take my word for it, watch here (CAUTION: audio NSFW):

Note: the “Lil Bill” nickname is absolutely hilarious.

Nobody really knows where the impetus for the decision came from, but it seems likely that Coach Boynton saw this highlight film and immediately offered. We’ve seen Boynton’s recruiting acumen at work recently, but we never expected it to affect our own football program.

The only question left is which position he will occupy in Mike Boynton’s rotation.

We reached out to Green for comment, and he replied, “the grind never stops.”
