Top-10 In-State Defensive End Trace Ford Commits to OSU

Oklahoma State lands one of the state’s best defensive players

It hasn’t been 24 hours since the Cowboy faithful and players sang the alma mater in celebration of their first victory of the 2018 season, yet they already have a second victory to celebrate.

This morning, 3-star Edmond, Oklahoma defensive end Trace Ford announced his commitment to Oklahoma State on Friday morning during a pep rally ahead of Edmond Santa Fe’s season opener against Edmond North.

“I just want to say thank you to all my family, coaches, and friends who all believed in me and got me where I am today. Thank you to every University that graciously spent their time recruiting me and believing that I was the right fit at their college. This has been an exciting and unfamiliar path for me and my family and it really gave me a new outlook on life. With that being said, I will be committing to play football at Oklahoma State University. Go pokes!!!”

Ford chose the Cowboys over Arkansas, Baylor, Cal, Arizona State, Oregon, Florida State, and 10 other schools that made up his 17 offers.

The Cowboys had been the favorites for awhile to land Ford, with Arkansas looking like the team to beat. But it seems the fact that OSU was Ford’s favorite team growing up and the coaching staff’s strong push to keep him in the panhandle state, that secured his commitment.

While Oklahoma State already has two other DEs in their 2019 class — Isreal Isuman-Hundley and Kody Walterscheid — this is a huge get for OSU. Ignore the 3-star rating. Ford is now the Cowboys’ second highest rated player according to 247Sports, and their third top-10 in-state commit, joining TE Grayson Boomer and CB Demarco Jones.
