After Head Coach Mike Boynton continued his streak of killing it on the recruiting trail with the huge commitment of 4-star guard Avery Anderson, it seemed like the emoji-laced tweet from Tuesday morning had been resolved.
But then there was this follow-up from the King of Cryptic Hype himself:
Followed later in the evening by the other notable 2019 basketball stud from this past weekend’s Bronco Busting making it clear that he’s still considering joining this massive wave of recruiting momentum as well when he included the Cowboys in his Top 4.
Along with Oklahoma State, Marcus Watson is also considering Georgia Tech, Texas Tech, and Oregon. The No. 2 ranked player in the state of Georgia, narrowed his list down from an original 19 offers, cutting teams like Georgia, Florida, Memphis, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech.
Even with Boynton surging late in his recruitment and procuring an official visit, we were still mostly of the opinion that Buford would end up somewhere else. This thought was reinforced by the thinking that there would only be one more spot open; the spot Avery Anderson just took. That may still end up being the case, but making his Top 4 shows that he’s listening very seriously to Boynton’s pitch. It also seems to show that the Cowboys are willing to take on another recruit and figure out a way to creatively manage the scholarships.
Regardless of what happens with the 2019 class and Watson, there are signs abound that Boynton is disrupting college basketball recruiting even at the highest levels of talent. Can you imagine adding another high 4-star wing to the stacked class he has already put together...?
The Ol’ Barn is about to rock again Cowboys fans. Can you feel it?
