High Noon Highlights(9/28): Rickie Fowler and Dustin Johnson have solid round at Ryder Cup

Welcome to High Noon Highlights, a place to catch up on everything you missed yesterday in Oklahoma State Athletics.

PGA: Ryder Cup Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

It’s high noon...

Rickie Fowler and Dustin Johnson win their first round in Ryder Cup:

The Ryder Cup kicked of late last night American time from Paris. Rickie Fowler and Dustin Johnson only had to play 16 holes to win their match against Rory McIlroy and Thorbjørn Olesen. The Americans would take the match 4&2. The score at the end the end of Day is 5-3 Europe.

Oklahoma State commit selected for Blue- Grey All-American Bowl:

Offensive tackle out of Argyle, Texas Preston Wilson has been selected to play in the Blue-Grey All American Bowl. The game will be in Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. It will also be shown on the ESPN family of networks.

Former member of Oklahoma State Bass Fishing club wins Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship:

Former president of the Oklahoma State fishing team, James Elam has won the Bass Master Angler of the Year. Pistols Firing’s Seth Duckworth gives details of the big win.

This is his third career tournament win. His total career earnings are now at $534,475, not to include sponsorships. Bassmaster details his big win here.

With his season slipping away, and a chance that his consecutive Bassmaster Classic streak would end at three, Oklahoma pro James Elam dug deep into his mental reserves. He found a last burst of energy and not only kept the string alive but also won his first tour-level event, leading the Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship at Lake Chatuge from wire to wire. The best sports analogy I could compare this to is Tiger Woods winning the Tour Championship. Tiger won the tournament while Justin Rose won the Fed-Ex cup. Here Elam won the tournament while another angler Justin Lucas took home the overall “Angler of the year title.” Elam’s not quite making the headlines that Tiger made, but this is still a huge accomplishment and very big win for him.

That’s all for today folks! Have a great weekend and we’ll be back on Monday with more highlights!
