Micah’s Five Predictions for 2019

The fearless leader tries her hand at a few predictions for the new year.

NCAA Football: Liberty Bowl-Missouri vs Oklahoma State Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

As an end to our prediction series, I’m going to gaze into my crystal ball and look into the future of a few of Oklahoma State’s athletic programs.

Oklahoma State Baseball makes Regional

The Pokes return a group of talented hitters to the diamond in 2019. Colin Simpson, Carson McCusker, Christian Funk and Trevor Boone will all be back in the Spring. They are embracing the trend in baseball of heavy hitting for the fences and scored 71 homers last year. They struggled to get hits and had some issues striking out during fall ball at Vanderbilt but I think some of those issues will be resolved and Holiday will have his guys hitting better and striking out less by the time spring rolls around.

Now, I expect them to be one of the lower seeds in whatever regional they end up but I think, like last year, they squeak in. But the fact that this team is going to return so many big power hitters and have a healthy (knock on wood ) Jensen Elliott for an entire season makes me think the Cowboys have a chance to make the NCAA Tournament again.

Rickie Fowler wins his major

I have absolutely no proof as to why I think this is going to happen other that I feel it in my gut. Fowler has been SO close the past few seasons and I think this is the year it finally happens for him.He played some great golf in 2018 after making it to Masters Sunday and taking runner up to Patrick Reed (still salty). New year, New (hopefully freshly shaven) Rickie. This is the year he finally finishes the job on a Sunday in head to toe orange.

Cowboy Golf goes back to the NCAA Championship

Let’s be real, when you’ve got the amount of guys coming back that were on that amazing team from 2018, you have to think you’ll have similar results. I think this teams repeats an appearance in the NCAA Championship. I don’t know if they’ll be able to pull of another win because that’s just hard to do. Pair that with the fact that it won’t be on their home course this year and the road to the trophy becomes harder. Alan Bratton team is just as stacked as it was last year and it’s insane. Matt Wolff, the player that sealed the shot to win it all last year, is back. They also bring back U.S. Amateur winner Victor Hovland.

Cowboy Basketball doesn’t make a tournament

Don’t get me twisted, this team is headed in a good direction. I just think they need one more year before they’re able to get to NIT again, or maybe even the Big Dance. I think they go deep into the NIT and win the whole thing in 2020. With guys like Avery Anderson and the Boone twins on the roster, this team is going to have the depth and talent it takes to win a tournament like the NIT. Like this year, they’re going to be young. This is a young team that has been making the kind of mistakes a team headed to a tournament doesn’t make. If they do make it to a tourney this year, I will gladly eat my words.

Chuba Hubbard rushes for 1,000 yards

With Justice Hill heading to the NFL and J.D, King transferring, Chuba Hubbard is looking to be RB1 next year. Behind a new quarterback in either Spencer Sanders and Dru Brown as well as new OC I expect Gundy to be conservative. While Oklahoma State returns star receiver Tylan Wallace, Chuba has really come into his own this year and I expect a lot of carries for the Canadian. I can see him going for 1,000 yards or more and having a stellar year, He has a chance to prove himself next year and I think he seizes his opportunity/
