Clakely throws no-hitter in 5 innings in softball game vs. UNT:
Yesterday afternoon Samantha Clakely did what every pitcher dreams of. She pitched a no-hitter in her five innings on the mound for Cowgirl Softball. Jordan Bishop of the Stillwater Newspress talked to her about the outing.
“Basically, I have to thank my defense,” Clakley said. “They had my back tonight. I had a few strikeouts, but my defense did all the work for me. It was a fun game.”
She attributed some of her success against the Mean Green (29-16) as familiarity because the team was a rival when Clakley played at UT-Arlington before transferring to OSU before her junior season.
OSU coach Kenny Gajewski said that has just been the way Clakley has been pitching since he gave her more outings earlier in the year. Since then, she has earned a conference pitcher of the week award and gotten her earned run average to 1.74, tops on the team. {Stillwater Newspress}
Cowboys after 55th men’s golf conference title:
The Cowboy men’s golf team is headed to West Virginia to compete in the Big 12 Championships. Alan Bratton’s squad is currently the top-ranked and will be paired with Texas in the first round.
The tournament will consist of 72 holes with 36 being played on Friday followed by 18-hole days on Saturday and Sunday. Pairings for the second day of play will be based on the 36-hole totals from Friday’s action. The final day’s pairings will be based on the 54-hole team totals with the leaders teeing off last. OSU’s lineup will be comprised of seniors Zach Bauchou and Hayden Wood, junior Viktor Hovland as well as sophomores Austin Eckroat and Matthew Wolff.
The Cowboys have won nine Big 12 crowns in the history of the event. OSU won three of the first four tournaments, finishing atop the leaderboard in 1997, 1998 and 2000. The Cowboys’ next league title came in 2005 before reeling off five-straight victories from 2007-2011. {okstate.com}
