Oklahoma State softball to host NCAA Regional for first time in 21 years

The Cowgirls road to Oklahoma City begins in Stillwater.

The Oklahoma State softball team will host an NCAA Regional next week for the first time since 1998.

The Cowgirls learned the news during Sunday night during the Women’s College World Series selection show.

OSU was named the No. 13 overall seed and will host Arkansas, Tulsa and BYU. The Cowgirls will open against BYU on Thursday. The Stillwater regional winner will face the Tallahassee Regional winner, which is hosted by the reigning national champion and No. 4 overall seed Florida State.

The announcement isn’t too much of a surprise. The Cowgirls (39-14) finished second in the Big 12 and were No. 14 in the country and are No. 12 in RPI.

OSU isn’t completely unfamiliar with the teams they’ll face in Stillwater; they split two meetings with TU earlier this season, losing 3-0 in March at Tulsa and winning 5-0 last month in Stillwater.

The Cowgirls were last in action at the Big 12 tournament where the Cowgirls went 2-0 beating Texas and Iowa State to reach the first place game. Alas, the weather had other plans and all Game-2 matches were canceled due to rain and field conditions.

Dates and times for the Stillwater regional have yet to be announced, however ticket information has.
