High Noon Highlights(5/9): NCAA Baseball Regional projections have Oklahoma State hosting

It’s high noon...

Oklahoma State projected to host on two separate sites:

After a sweep of reigning champs Oregon State this past weekend, Oklahoma State has put themselves on the path to be able to host an NCAA regional in the last season for Allie. P Reynolds ballpark. Both D1Baseball and Baseball America have them doing just that.

D1 Baseball has the Cowboys as the overall No. 10 seed, hosting a regional that includes Harvard, Duke and Arizona State.

Oklahoma State and Ole Miss entered as Top 16s this week. The Cowboys surged in the RPI, have a solid conference standing and have arguably the best road series win in college baseball this season, while the Rebels are up to 17 in the RPI with a strong SEC mark, nine wins vs. RPI Top 25 and 16 wins vs. RPI Top 50. OSU and Ole Miss are both teams that could surge into the top eight discussion with an incredible finish to the regular season and a solid showing in their respective conference tournaments. {D1Baseball}

Baseball America has the Cowboys as the overall No.13 seed playing host to Texas A&M, Dallas Baptist and Sam Houston State in their projections.

Oklahoma State changed its hosting fortunes with a sweep at Oregon State that pushed its RPI into the top 15. It was also the beneficiary of Texas Christian’s series win at West Virginia, which pushed the Cowboys into third place in the Big 12 standings. Oklahoma State also faces a tough finishing stretch with this weekend’s Bedlam series against Oklahoma and a visit from Baylor still ahead. {Baseball America}

Mike Gundy ranked No. 12 on CBS top-25 Power 5 coaches list:

CBS sports put out a list of the top-25 power 5 coaches entering 2019 yesterday. Making the list just outside the Top-10 was Oklahoma State’s own Mike Gundy. Writer Tom Fornelli was really high on Gundy.

When will my colleagues admire Gundy as much as I do? I had him at No. 5 on my ballot, and admittedly, that is probably a little bullish, particularly after a 7-6 season. Still, Gundy has gone 121-59 in 14 seasons with the Cowboys and 85-32 over the last nine years. The only thing missing is the conference titles, which I assume is a major reason my colleagues aren’t as high on him as I am. Still, if I were running a program, there aren’t many coaches in the country right now I’d hire over Gundy. 2018 rank: 11 (-1) {CBS Sports}
