Report: Oklahoma State to Open NIT Tip-Off Against Syracuse

A battle of the orange at the Barclays

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-First Round-Baylor vs Syracuse Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Oklahoma State will open the 2019 NIT Tip-Off in Brooklyn this fall against the Syracuse Orange. That’s according to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein.

Syracuse is coming off a 20-14 season, including 10-8 in ACC play, and a first round exit in the NCAA tournament (a 78-69 loss to Baylor).

If Rothstein’s report is correct (which they usually are), the match-ups make sense. Having the two teams closest to Brooklyn (Syracuse, Penn State) facing the two teams furthest away (OSU, Ole Miss) could set up some interesting second-round match-ups.

Oklahoma State and Syracuse have a history of facing off in New York. The Cowboys beat the Orange 74-60 in Madison Square Garden back in 2004, then did it again inside the Garden in 2006 winning 72-68.

The NIT Tip-Off will be held on November 27 and 29 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
