Examining the rebuild on the defensive line

The Cowboys lost six defensive linemen from last year and are starting four underclassmen. The Oklahoman’s Scott Wright has the analysis.

This Season: The Cowboys have holes to fill across the board after losing six defensive linemen from last year’s team. Martin, Evers, Murray and Scott played in backup roles last year, while Antwine and Junior were starters at their previous schools. Still, this group needs to gel quickly.

Defensive coordinator Jim Knowles likes the blend of player types, particularly with some bigger ends like Lacy — who is listed at 265 but says he weighs 280 — and Fofana, plus agile and athletic tackles to give the group some versatility in how Knowles uses them.

The future: Scott and Junior are the only seniors on the line, and coach Mike Gundy has already commented this year about how promising the group looks for the future. There will be plenty of times this year when the entire line consists of freshmen and sophomores. Tuihalamaka has shown promise at tackle and could fight his way into the rotation. The Oklahoman

LD Brown looking forward to utilize his speed

Considering how fast the pokes play, Chubba Hubbard can’t play all the snaps. His backup LD Brown is excited for his role.

Brown is the second running back on Oklahoma State’s depth chart behind Chuba Hubbard. He is excited about the amount touches he is expecting to get this year because of the pace that the Cowboys play.

“At Oklahoma State, we play fast, so of course we’re going to tempo and when you playing fast you also sub,” Brown said. “You can’t play fast with just one person, so we will touch the ball and we will spread the ball. It’s just something to look forward to.” Tulsa World
