T.Boone might have the strongest alum/alma mater connection:
The Athletics wrote a fantastic story about T.Boone Pickens how how OSU, especially the athletic department, would not be the same without him.
“You grew up here, so you understand,” Gundy told me. “The people from the East Coast and the West Coast, now they know us as this big-time football operation, this new building, the new stadium. They don’t understand the rusted erector set where we came from.”
The transformation began with coach Les Miles and his brash, why-not-us attitude. But things went to another level because of billionaire oil man and alumnus T. Boone Pickens, whose $165 million donation in 2006 remains the single largest gift to a university’s athletic department. All told, Pickens donated $652 million to Oklahoma State through the years, with more than $300 million of that going to athletics. {The Athletic}
