NCAA approves extra year of eligibility for spring sport athletes

Winter sport athletes will not receive another year.

Oklahoma State spring sport athletes who had their seasons shortened by the coronavirus outbreak will be permitted to have an additional year of eligibility.

The NCAA Division 1 Council voted Monday to give college athletes who competed in spring sports to get back the season they lost, but did not make financial aid a guarantee. Roster limits will be adjusted to allot returning athletes along with incoming freshman.

Council members declined to extend eligibility for winter sport athletes in sports where all or much of their regular seasons were completed.

Each university will determine how much scholarship money will be available to each athlete.
