For the past few years, Oklahoma State has been one of the best when it comes to creating unique and memorable signing day graphics and videos to announce its new class of signees.
Who can forget the Red Dead Redemption homage for NSD19 back in 2018 that played off Oklahoma State’s “Cowboys” nickname and the popularity of the video game franchise?

Of course, there were last year’s Techmo Bowl-style video game graphics and videos that were arguably the best of the year in 2020 across all of college football.

This year, Oklahoma State caught on to the shoe craze for NSD22 and leveraged thei relationship with Nike to create some impressive shoe and shoebox content.

The idea for this year’s graphics came about last month.
“So we had a meeting back in early November to start brainstorming ideas and what our plan should be,” Vessels said. “A lot of design looks this year have been inspired by the Nike brand and our designers (Jonathan Chaves and Harold Smith) have been doing a phenomenal job with those this season, along with our student workers. And with shoes being bigger than ever nowadays, it made sense to have that be a focal point for our NSD look because it’s relevant in the social landscape as well as fitting in with our look this season.”
The video for each signee starts off with an orange Nike shoebox and some details about each player that changes, including their player number, weight and measurements, and more. Keep note of the shoe name on each box, we’ll come back to that in a minute.
One other thing to note; the QR codes.
“It’s a low-key detail but the first QR code leads to the CowboyFB page and then it changes to a QR code that leads to each guy’s personal Twitter profile,” OSU football videographer Heath Vessels said. “We wanted to make these as custom to each player as we possibly could.”
The videos wrap with highlights of each player, a welcome message, and the 2022 hashtag, #letsride2022.
Then comes the individual graphics for each player. Each signee was sent a “shoe graphic” that they could post themselves announcing they signed with Oklahoma State. You’ll notice that each player’s graphic is different.
“We asked them what their favorite Nike show was and then built custom OSU versions for each guy,” Vessels said.

If you want to know what kind of shoe it is, it’s featured on the box in the video (told you to keep that shoe name in mind).
Taking the time to customize each signee’s favorite Nike shoe for a graphic is the level of attention to detail and creativity we’ve come to expect from Oklahoma State football and the creative team.
