It’s high noon...

A special group chat:

During the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the struggle of the season coming to a screeching and sudden halt bonded quite a few of the OSU coaches. Head men’s basketball coach Mike decided to initiate a group chat so they can stay in contact with each other and lean on each other for support in not only sports by life.

“There was a lot of stuff going on this summer, and the truth is we needed each other,” Boynton said. “One of the things I wanted to do was let those (coaches) know I would be there to support them and their teams however I could.”

Other coaches agreed.

“We were all going through something really similar and not really sure what the future was going to look like in the summer of last year, so we spent some time kind of talking through it,” said OSU women’s tennis coach Chris Young. {ocolly.com}

Coach Boynton’s former players give well wishes:

After yesterday’s announcement of a big contract extension for Mike Boynton, the basketball team released an awesome video of coach Boynton’s former players congratulating him on his success as a head coach and telling him what he meant to them. It was a fantastic touch for Coach.

Knowles finds comfort in veteran defense:

In a great interview with Pokes Report, the defensive coordinator Jim Knowles talked about what to expect from year 4. Behind the guys that have been there since his start, he’s sleeping well knowing his guys are ready.

“Here I am coming into year four of being here and I have a lot of guys that been with me since I got here. Think about it,” Knowles said. “With Jarrick (Bernard-Converse), Kolby (Harvell-Peel), Tre (Sterling), Tanner (McCalister), and you know, Malcolm (Rodriguez), and Devin (Harper). It is fun out there. We have a great relationship, and it is fun to come to work. Those guys know how I think. They know what to expect and they know what the defense is trying to do. You can talk to them about some next level concepts. We’ve got a good veteran group.” {Pokes Report}
