It’s High (After)Noon....
Cowboy Wrestling splits Big 12 title with OU:
Yesterday’s final in the Big 12 tournament ended in an unconventional way. Two bitter rivals would end up with a share of the title. After Daton Fix would not be able to earn extra points in his match, OU was able to find a way to get enough team points to win the title.
“Anybody else (other than OU),” Daton Fix said. “Hats off to them. They competed hard all weekend. I just wish I could’ve gotten an extra point or a half a point.”
Fix won the individual 133 title in a Bedlam rematch against Tony Madrigal, 6-1.
The nation’s No. 1 ranked wrestler won all of his matches this season with a major decision — except this one. A major decision would’ve given OSU bonus points and made them the outright winner.
“That’s what I was looking for and I didn’t do that,” Fix said. “I feel like I kind of let my team down because that was a great opportunity for us.” {O’Colly}
Men’s Basketball rises in AP Poll:
After another win against a Top-10 team on Saturday the Cowboys rose from No.17 to No.12 in the latest AP Poll.
The Cowboys were led by sophomore point guard Avery Anderson III in the absence of both Cade Cunningham and Isaac Likekele. Anderson dropped a career-high 32 points on 79% shooting from the field.
However, Mike Boynton and Co. are hoping for similar success this coming Thursday as they’re set to face the Mountaineers in the opening round of the Big 12 tournament. The Cowboys earned the No. 5 seed and the Mountaineers the No. 4. {Pokes Report}
Encarnacion-Strand earns Big 12 Honor:
Christian Encarnacion-Strand was awarded Big 12 Newcomer of the week. This is the second-straight week that Cowboys Baseball has won this award.
In the opener against GCU, he smashed a three-run home in the fourth inning to give OSU a lead it never surrendered, and in the series finale, he recorded another three-run shot, delivering the blast in the first inning to help the Cowboys erase a 2-0 deficit.{okstate.com}
