Jon Littell Named Big 12 Co-Newcomer Of The Week

For the second consecutive week an Oklahoma State Cowboy was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, this time it was freshman outfielder Jon Littell.

Oklahoma State freshman outfielder Jon Littell was named the Big 12 co-newcomer of the week for his performance in the Big 12/Pac-12 challenge last weekend. Littell is sharing the honor with Texas first baseman Michael Cantu.

This is the second consecutive week that a Cowboy has received this honor, with third baseman Kevin Bradley winning it last week.

Coach Holliday put Littell in the fourth spot in the order for the weekend and it showed big dividends, Littell went 6-14 (.429 avg.) with five RBI's, helping the Cowboys to a 3-1 record on the weekend against four Pac-12 opponents. The Stillwater-native recorded a career-high three hits and three RBI's against Washington State on Friday.

I know it's early, but through seven games Littell is hitting .360 (9-25) with an on-base percentage of .469. There has yet to be a learning curve for this future-star, who just a few months ago led the Stillwater HS baseball team to a state title.

I've made it no secret that I love this kid and I think he has superstar potential. My prediction is that Littell is going to own the award for newcomers throughout the course of the season and even get a few nods for Player of the Week.
