Thomas Dziagwa scored 21 points, all on career-high seven 3-pointers, as Oklahoma State ran away with the game in the second half for their first road win of the season Wednesday night with a 73-54 victory over College of Charleston. The Cowboys had a rough start, but once they go things going (and got the officials to swallow their whistles) OSU grabbed control of the game to improve to 3-0.
There are a few notes I jotted down while watching the game.
- OSU trailed 26-17 at 4:11 in the first half. They were playing ugly basketball on both sides of the court. Then, Dziagwa got hot and the Cowboys outscored Charleston 56-28 the rest of the way. Yeah, the offense got going, but full credit to OSU’s defensive performance.
- Despite trailing, OSU played some solid defense in this one, especially in the second half. They held the Cougars to 32.7 field goal percentage and including 18.5 percent from 3. Only two guys had double digits but they were a combined 11-27.
- This was nice.

- A live look at Dziagwa from beyond the arch... still on fire.
- Kalib Boone was the only guy off the bench to hit a shot on Wednesday night. He went 5-9 for 10 points. Plus he added three rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block.
- The Boone twins so far are the most ready true freshman of the bunch. And it ain’t close. Kalib is shooting 8-16 so far this season. Keylan has hit 6 of 11. All other newcomers are a combined 6-32.
- I’ve been impressed by the potential I’ve seen from Anderson and Harris. Both guys hustle. When the shots start falling for them, look out.
- This was very nice.
- Cam McGriff was 3-for-11, now 8-for-27 on the season. That includes 1-10 from three. I understand the benefit of stretch bigs. I’m sure he wants to show off his range. But that’s not his game. McGriff is a beast. He’s strong. And this team is at his best when he’s using that size and strength and getting to the rim. McGriff is 13-14 from the free throw line. Get there more.
- Oklahoma State had 11 turnovers in the game. They now have 41 on the season. It’s a trend that needs to turn the other direction.
- On the flip side, OSU’s opponents now have 44 on the season, so at least the Cowboys are on the positive side of that one!
- Yor Anei hit a jumper from the elbow. I don’t know how to effectively explain my excitement about that.
- This was a quality win for this team. Not just overcoming the early adversity, but doing so on the road in a decently hostile environment. Not to mention, this is one of those wins that will look sneaky good on the resume.
