Oklahoma State is adding a new assistant to its men’s basketball coaching staff.
Cowboys head coach Mike Boynton has hired current Florida Atlantic assistant coach Erik Pastrana for the same role, according to reports from The Stadium’s Jeff Goodman and CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein.
Boynton and Pastrana previously worked together at Stephen F. Austin under Brad Underwood. Pastrana spent three seasons with the Lumberjacks, helping them win three consecutive Southland Conference championships and two victories in the NCAA tournament.
Prior to being hired on as an assistant at FAU in 2018, Pastrana was the head coach at Daytona State College where he had a 19-12 record. In addition to his various collegiate level experience, he has also coached AAU, which could come in handy on the recruiting trail.
Pastrana joins John Cooper, David Kontaxis and Scott Sutton as assistant coaches for the Cowboys. Cooper, Kontaxis and Sutton have all been on staff since Boynton’s tenure started in 2017.
