Oklahoma State has found itself in a familiar position under coach Mike Boynton in March — in the opening game of the Big 12 tournament.
For the third straight year under Boynton the Cowboys will play in the first game of the tournament this time as the No. 8 seed against No. 9 seed Iowa State at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The game will be broadcasted on ESPNU.
The Cowboys have lost two straight in the Big 12 tournament with Boynton after a 71-60 win against No. 9 Oklahoma in 2018. OSU lost 82-68 to top-seeded Kansas in the second round, and fell 73-70 to No. 8 TCU in 2019.
The Cowboys and Cyclones split their regular season series with each team winning at home, 89-82 ISU win Jan. 21 in Ames and 73-61 OSU win Feb. 29 in Stillwater. Both teams enter the tournament in different directions as the Cyclones have lost three straight and five of their past six, while the Cowboys have won three straight and four of their past five.
The OSU-ISU winner will face No. 1 seed Kansas at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
