Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton continues to keep his promise of scheduling tough in the non-conference.
The Cowboys will face off against Louisville in a neutral-site match-up, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports. The Armed Forces Classic is currently scheduled for Nov. 13 at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.
OSU is 1-3 in the all-time series against Louisville, with each team winning on their home court. The Cowboys only win in the series was a 72-71 upset against the No. 8 Cardinals on Dec. 6, 1980 in the first meeting between the two programs.
Oklahoma State vs. Louisville series history
1980: OSU 72, No. 8 Louisville 71
1982: No. 12 Louisville 67, OSU 66
1988: No. 15 Louisville 92, OSU 90
1993: No. 15 Louisville 78, No. 23 OSU 63
Ever since his team was left out of the NCAA tournament in his first season at the helm due to a poor non-conference strength of schedule, Boynton has made sure to “schedule up” every season to ensure that won’t be a problem again.
The 2020 schedule, so far, is keeping with that practice. Along with the above mentioned game against Louisville, OSU will also play in the Charleston Classic from Nov. 19-20 and 22 in Charleston, South Carolina. OSU is part of an eight-team field that includes Charleston, Florida State, Houston, Penn State, Seton Hall, Tennessee and VCU.
OSU is also scheduled to continue their four-game series with Wichita State on Dec. 12 at Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas.
Add in OSU’s TBD opponents in the Big 12 / SEC Challenge and the Big 12 / Big East Alliance (one will be home, one will be road), and 2020 should certainly help to prepare a young and talented roster for the pains of playing a Big 12 schedule.
