Oklahoma State to visit Marquette for 2020 Big East/Big 12 Battle

Details about the 2020-2021 Oklahoma State basketball non-conference schedule continue to trickle out. The latest news comes courtesy of Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports who reports OSU will travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to face Marquette in the second Big East/Big 12 Battle. The date is unknown.

The Cowboys are 4-1 all time against the Golden Eagles, including a 74-62 win in the first round of the 1993 NCAA tournament in Indianapolis. Marquette’s lone victory in the series came in 2007 when the No. 11 Golden Eagles soared past the Cowboys 91-61 in the Maui Invitational.

It’s the second year for the cross-conference showdown, which has each team from each conference paired up against each other. The Big 12 lost the inaugural season of the “Battle” (or Alliance. Honestly, it’s been called a few things) 8-2. The Cowboys fell 81-74 to the Georgetown in Stillwater.

Marquette is coming off an 18-12 season, including 8-10 in Big East play, and was projected as one of the final four in Joe Lunardi’s final Bracketology.

While they will lose their top two scorers — including Markus Howard who averaged 27.8 points per game — the Golden Eagles will return three of their five starters and are set to bring in the 16th ranked class according to 247.

Other match-ups this year reportedly include Texas hosting Villanova, Kansas hosting Creighton, Baylor traveling to Seton Hall and Oklahoma visiting Xavier.
