Gunnar Gundy, the son of Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy, plans to join the Cowboys as a walk-on quarterback in 2021, the younger Gundy told The Oklahoman on Friday.
Gunnar said he’ll enroll at OSU as a part-time student for the spring and fall semesters in 2020 before becoming a full-time student in spring of 2021.
Gundy, who stands at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, threw for 3,481 yards with 47 touchdowns and three interceptions during his senior season at Stillwater High School to increase his career totals to 6,627 yards and 78 touchdowns. He led the Pioneers to the Class 6A-II state championship game where they fell 40-36 to Bixby and 2020 OSU signee Brennan Presley.
OSU currently has redshirt freshman Spencer Sanders projected to play quarterback for the next two to three seasons and four-star 2020 signee Shane Illingworth waiting in the wings.
Gunnar Gundy will follow in the footsteps of wrestler Joe Smith to compete for his father at OSU. Smith, who is a redshirt senior, has earned All-American honors twice during his OSU career.
