Despite a full slate of games for the Big 12 this weekend (assuming we make it past Friday’s virus testing), all eyes should be focused on one game as conference hopes of a College Football Playoff birth hang perilously on the flag flying above Boone Pickens Stadium.
That flag belongs to Oklahoma State.
As the only undefeated team remaining in the league, the Cowboys are the only shot at a spot in the final four. While Kansas State is still undefeated in Big 12 play, their loss to Arkansas State in the Wildcats’ opener dooms them to exclusion even if they run the table, which is highly unlikely given they lost starting quarterback Skyler Thompson for the season. Iowa State also has the same kind of albatross hanging around their neck along with the loss last weekend at OSU. Neither Texas nor Oklahoma is capable of getting past their two conference losses should they run the table through the Big 12 championship game.
This leaves the Big 12 with fingers crossed hoping the Cowboys can run the table through the title game...
Now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s see what we have on our plate for this week.
Kansas State at West Virginia (11 a.m. CT on ESPN2, WV -4, O/U 45.5)
Well according to Vegas Willie the Wildcat is shitting his diapers this weekend.
Despite coming in undefeated in conference play and the Neers coming off a horrible loss to the Rash Raiders, somehow the coonskin cap is favored. I'm taking West Virginia to win but I think KState covers and I would think the under is a lock.
Iowa State at Kansas (11 a.m. CT on FS1, Iowa St -28.5, O/U 52)
Take Iowa State, lay the points, and bet the over.
What? If you need more analysis on this game then you can't be helped.
TCU at Baylor (2:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2, TCU -2.5, O/U 48)
Another "meh" matchup as neither team is going to factor into anything other than potentially upsetting the chances of those above them.
Baylor may or may not have a full roster due to coronavirus stupidity. I'll go out on a limb and take TCU, lay the points, and stay the hell away from the O/U.
Oklahoma at Texas Tech (7 p.m. CT on FOX, OU -14.5, O/U 68)
"Trip up" game of the week?
Maybe, but I doubt it. Tech's surprise win over West Virginia last week should ensure that the Sooners show up wide awake for this one, never mind OU has to win out to have a chance to make the Big 12 title game. I'll take Lincoln, lay the points, and be contrarian and bet the under.
Then again, we never mind seeing Sooner accidents...
Texas at Oklahoma State (3 p.m. CT on FOX, OSU -3.5, O/U 58.5)
I hate Sam Ehlinger.
The Texas QB is going to be the main cause of many ulcers and empty liquor cabinets on Saturday afternoon. I'm NOT looking forward to this. Once again OSU gets the "home field" 3 points which is amazing given that they are #5 in the country playing at home against a team that is NOT better than Iowa State. Did a Cowboy fan set the line? I have a bad feeling about this...wait, who am I kidding, I always have a bad feeling about these games. Like last week, I'm picking Texas to burst our bubble and win outright, and I'd go with the under. Please let me be wrong.
Have a great weekend!
GO POKES!!!
