Oklahoma State will have a new season opener after the Pac 12 moved to a conference-only schedule Friday. Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic first reported the news Thursday.
The Cowboys were slated to play Oregon State on Thursday, Sept. 3 at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater. OSU defeated the Beavers 52-36 in last year’s season opener at Reser Stadium in Corvallis, Oregon. Chuba Hubbard rushed for 221 yards and three touchdowns for the Cowboys, while Tylan Wallace caught five passes for 92 yards and two scores in the win.
The Big Ten was the first Power 5 league to close down fall sports (men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball) to a conference-only format Thursday.
OSU now has two non-conference opponents — both at home — in Tulsa (Sept. 12) and FCS Western Illinois (Sept. 19) remaining on its schedule. If the Big 12 goes with a conference-only format, the Cowboys’ first game will be Oct. 3 at TCU at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth.
