True freshman Shane Illingworth will make his first career start for No. 15 Oklahoma State Cowboys against West Virginia on Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater.

Illingworth, a former four-star recruit from Norco, California, will be in for Spencer Sanders, who exited with a right ankle sprain during OSU’s 16-7 season-opening win last week against Tulsa. Sanders was in a walking boot earlier this week and participated in pregame warmups with a heavy amount tape on his right ankle. He’ll be available to play, if needed.

Sanders suffered the injury on the Cowboys’ opening drive last week when he went 2-for-2 for 23 yards before Alex Hale hit a 27-yard field goal to go up 3-0. Sanders was hit awkwardly twice on the drive, once on a run when he was tripped up and another while scrambling to his left. He limped to OSU’s locker room without assistance and Bullock replaced him on the next drive.

Junior college transfer Ethan Bullock was 8 of 13 for 41 yards and threw one interception until Illingworth entered late in the third quarter and was 4 of 5 passes for 74 yards in his debut.
