The No. 1-ranked Oklahoma State golf team claimed their fourth tournament title this season by winning the Querencia Cabo Collegiate on Tuesday in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, with a 32-under 820, eight shots clear of second place Arizona State.
Along with claiming the team title, an OSU golfer(s) took medalist honors for the seventh straight tournament. Sophomore Austin Eckroat headed into the final round with the lead and built upon it with a 4-under round to finish at 14-under to win the tournament.
The Cowboys finished round one in second place with a 7-under 277, eight shots behind Arizona State. But on Day 2, OSU took a commanding nine-shot lead with a 15-under 269, to put them at 22-under. The Cowboys were led by Eckroat, who turned in a bogey-free, 8-under 63 to take the individual lead at 10-under.
There wasn’t much drama in the final round, with OSU putting up a 10-under 274. Along with another solid performance from Eckroat, classmate Matthew Wolff played his best round of the tournament, a 7-under 64, to finish alone in second place at 12-under for the tournament. Senior Hayden Wood was OSU’s other top-10 finisher, using an even-par day to finish at 5-under for sixth place.
Rounding out the top five teams were Baylor — the only other team to finish under par at 9-under — No. 3-ranked Vanderbilt and Arizona.
Eckroat is now OSU’s third different golfer to medal at an event, joining Wolff (four wins) and Viktor Hovland (three wins), who was out of action as he was preparing or the Arnold Palmer Invitational this weekend.
The Cowboys will be back in action March 17-19 at the Valspar Collegiate in West Palm Beach, Florida, where they’ll play against a 15-team field that includes No. 5 Georgia Tech, No. 7 Wake Forest and No. 8 Texas, among others.
