Alex Dieringer, who won three NCAA national championships at Oklahoma State, will wrestle at 79 kilograms (174 pounds) for the United States men’s national freestyle team at the Ivan Yarygin Grand Memorial in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.
The tournament will be Jan. 24-27 and be streamed on FloWrestling.org.
Dieringer, who won the 2016 Dan Hodge Trophy as the NCAA’s most outstanding wrestler, finished third on the national team ladder in 2018.
Dieringer went 133-4 at OSU and was 19-1 in the NCAA tournament to end his career on an 82-match win streak, which is the third longest run in program history.
The OSU standout will be joined by seven past World medalists, including four teammates on the men’s side. Two-time World champion and 2016 Olympic champion Kyle Snyder (Ohio State product) seeks his third consecutive Yarygin title at 97kg. Other former World medalists include: Thomas Gilman (Iowa) at 57kg, James Green (Nebraska) at 70kg and Joe Colon (Northern Iowa) at 61kg.
Former NCAA champions Isaiah Martinez (Illinois/74kg), Zain Retherford (Penn State/65kg) and Corey Clark (Iowa/61kg) will also compete.
