Former Oklahoma State defensive end Jarrell Owens will get a chance to continue his professional career after being selected by the New York Guardians in the XFL Draft on Tuesday.
Owens had 31 tackles, including 23 solo stops, six quarterback sacks and one forced fumble during his last season as a senior. He signed as undrafted free agent with the Browns, but was waived in August.
Former OSU quarterback Taylor Cornelius was selected earlier in the day by the Tampa Bay Vipers. Three former Cowboys remain available in the XFL draft: offensive tackle Michael Bowie, offensive guard Larry Williams and wide receiver Codey McElroy — who played basketball at OSU.
The eight-team XFL is filling their respective 71-man rosters during the two-day draft by position. Day 2 of the draft will be Wednesday.
Here is the order: 1. Skill Players (QB, RB, WR, TE) 2. Offensive Line (OT, OG, OC) 3. Defensive Front Seven (DL, LB) 4. Defensive Backfield (CB, NB, SS, FS) 5. Open Draft (all remaining players after positional drafts, in addition to P/K/LS)
