Former Oklahoma State pitcher Tyler Lyons and the Yankees were eliminated from the postseason with a 6-4 loss to the Astros in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series.
Jose Altuve’s hit game-ending homer off Aroldis Champman to advance to the World Series for the second time in three years. Houston will face the Nationals.
Lyons didn’t pitch in Game 6, but did take the mound earlier in the series in Game 4. He tossed two strikeouts in the ninth inning with two runners on in the Yankees’ 8-3 loss.
Lyons had four strikeouts in 1 2⁄3 innings on 19 pitches throughout the postseason.
The Pirates released him Aug. 11 and four days later New York signed him to a minor-league deal. He was selected for a September call up then had 12 strikeouts, two walks, a 4.15 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 11 regular-season games.
