For the first time since 2016, a former Oklahoma State football player has a chance to hold the Lombardi trophy. Cornerback Ramon Richards will take the field with the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday to face off against New England in Super Bowl LIII.
Richards is hoping to join a list of 14 other former Pokes in earning a Super Bowl ring. Before we stuff our faces with nachos and drink more beer that we probably should on a night we have to work the next day, let’s reminisce on some Oklahoma State players that have Super Bowl rings.
* List is in Alphabetical order *
Billy Bajema (TE):
Bajema got his ring in the 2013 Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens in a win over the San Francisco 49ers. Bajema saw action in eight games that season but didn’t record a stat.
Michael Bowie (OL):
Bowie was part of the 2014 Seattle Seahawks team that won the Super Bowl over the Denver Broncos. It was his first season in the league after being drafted in the 2013 Draft by the Seahawks.
Keith Burns (LB):
Burns was on a Broncos team that beat the Green Bay Packers in the 1998 Super Bowl. After a 13-year playing career, he would coach special teams around the league.
Walt Garrison (RB):
Walt Garrison would go to back-to-back Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys, winning one in 1972 over the Miami Dolphins. Garrison had 14 carries for 74 yards in the game to end a fantastic year.
Jack Golden (LB):
Jack Golden would make an appearance in the 2001 Super Bowl with the New York Giants, but wouldn’t get his ring until 2003 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Charlie Johnson (OL):
Johnson won his ring in 2007 when the Indianapolis Colts beat the Chicago Bears. He would return to the Super Bowl in 2010, but the Colts were beat by New Orleans Saints.
Jon Kolb (C):
Kolb has won the most Super Bowls of any former Poke, winning four-straight titles with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1976 through 1979.
Dexter Manley(DE):
Manley went to three different Super Bowls with the Washington Redskins in 1983, 1984 and 1988. Washington won two of those, first in ‘83 over the Dolphins then in ‘88 over the Broncos.
Ryan McBean (DL):
McBean was on the same Ravens team as Billy Bajema that won the 2013 Super Bowl. This was a Ravens defense that featured Ray Lewis.
R.W. McQuarters (S):
You might remember McQuarters as the football player who joined the basketball team. He also has a Super Bowl ring with the New York Giants that he won in 2008 after they beat the Patriots.
Russell Okung (OL):
Okung won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks in 2014 when they beat the Denver Broncos. Okung would return to the Super Bowl in 2015 with the Seahawks, but they would get beat by the Patriots.
Antonio Smith (DE):
Smith has been to two Super Bowls, winning a ring in 2016 with the Denver Broncos. He is the most recent Cowboy to take part in a Super Bowl.
John Washington (DT):
Washington won a Super Bowl in 1991 while playing for the New York Giants. That was the franchises second Super Bowl.
Donovan Woods (LB):
Woods won a Super Bowl in 2009 playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers. They beat the Arizona Cardinals that year for the title.
Should Ramon Richards and the Rams be able to pull off the victory Sunday against the Patriots, He’ll be in good company.
