Two former Oklahoma State wrestlers will compete in men’s freestyle at the USA Wrestling Senior Nationals starting Saturday at the Xtreme Arena in Coralville, Iowa.
Dean Heil is the No. 6 seed in the 65 kilograms weight class, while Derek White is the No. 9 seed at 125 kg.
Heil, a two-time NCAA champion and three-time All-American at 141 pounds, moved in June from Buies Creek Regional Training Center at Campbell to Navy-Marine Corps RTC at the Naval Academy when Cary Kolat took the head coaching job with the Midshipmen. Heil will face David Ortega in the first round and could meet former Ohio State standout Luke Pletcher in the Round of 16. Heil is on the opposite side of the bracket as his brother, Josh.
White, a NCAA runner-up at heavyweight in 2019, draws Cale Davidson of Nebraska RTC in the first round in order to face David Chaid of California RTC. If White wins his first two matches, he’ll likely face top-seeded Don Bradley, a two-time U.S. Open and Pan American champion, in the quarterfinals.
