Jordy Mercer is looking for a new home.

The former Oklahoma State standout was designated for assignment by the Tigers and elected for free agency Thursday. He cleared waivers and will now try to catch on with another team that needs a veteran infielder.

Mercer, who turns 34 on Aug. 27, was 2-for-9 with one run and one strikeout in three games this season after signing a minor league deal with Detroit. Mercer spent the first seven years of his MLB career with the Pirates, who selected him in the third round of the 2008 MLB Draft, before he joined the Tigers in 2019. He slashed .270/.310/.438 with nine home runs, 24 runs and 22 RBI across 271 plate appearances last season.

OSU has two former players on MLB rosters with left-handed starting pitcher Andrew Heaney of the Angels and right-handed pitcher Thomas Hatch of the Blue Jays.
