Former Oklahoma State golfer Matthew Wolff carded six birdies Saturday to take the lead at the 2020 U.S. Open heading into Sunday’s final round at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York.

Wolff was at 4-over 74 to start the third round and quickly rose up the leaderboard with five of his six birdies on the front nine. He shot for par the first five holes on the back nine then bogied No. 16. He shot for par on No. 17 and birdied No. 18 to finish the day 5-under and two strokes ahead of Bryson DeChambeau.

Wolff is joined by former OSU golfer Viktor Hovland inside the top 10 at eighth. Hovland carded three birdies and three bogeys on the front nine then shot for par on every hole on the back nine to be 2-over 70.

Alex Noren is just outside the top 10 in a share for 11th after he had four birdies — two on each the front and back nine — and a bogey on No. 8. It was a big jump for Noren, who made the cut on the number (6 over) and was tied with Rickie Fowler at 49th.

Charles Howell III shot three consecutive bogies from No. 4-6, but closed out the front nine with a birdie before he shot par on every hole the back nine. He moved up two spots into a tie for 31st at 7-over 72.

Fowler had three bogeys and a birdie on No. 9 to sit at 8-over 72 in a share for 34th to round out the OSU group.
