A sophomore safety from Kennedale, Texas, took time out of his week for a quick trip to Stillwater.

JD Coffey is a four star prospect who recorded 88 tackles and 6 interceptions as a freshman, and added another 66 tackles and 6 interceptions as a sophomore. Coffey played in the state championship game as a freshman and said it was a great experience. As for his visit to Stillwater, Coffey said he enjoyed what Oklahoma State has to offer.

“I really enjoyed Oklahoma State,” Coffey said. “I like different things about [OSU]. The facilities [were good] and the coaches were very welcoming, and I liked practice. It was very interesting.”

Coffey has offers from Utah and Illinois State, but he said he’s getting close with the Oklahoma State coaching staff and hopes to continue his relationship with them going forward.

“Me and the coaches at Oklahoma State, we got close in just that one day,” Coffey said. “Hopefully we can get closer. I like Oklahoma State a lot, so I will definitely stay in touch with them.”

Coffey said safeties coach Dan Hammerschmidt said he will be visiting Coffey in Kennedale to see him play next year. Coffey said Stillwater gave him a welcoming vibe and he looks forward to visiting Oklahoma State again in the future.

The rising junior still has plenty of high school football to play, and his recruitment will only pick up from here. It’s encouraging for Oklahoma State to be in on his recruitment so early and to get him to visit. You can check out his sophomore season highlights below.
