Only one week of spring practice is in the books, but there's plenty to discuss.

As Gundy has alluded to, what a difference an ending makes.

Spring football springs forth with optimism, thanks to Mason Rudolph's late season coming out party and some pretty strong hires filling 4 openings, three of those on the offensive side of the ball.

Mark does his usual excellent work in setting me up to talk for long periods of time (which, if you know me at all, actually isn't that difficult).

We start with the coaching hires, then move on to offensive and defensive player reviews.

My apologies to Matekiai Maile, whose name I most assuredly butchered.

Enjoy, and remember...it's only 5 months until fall camp...

In our final edition of our spring football preview we dive into the most fascinating position on the Cowboys roster.

For the first time since Brandon Weeden left Oklahoma State in 2011, the Cowboys seem to have a solidified starter in Mason Rudolph. Not only does the team know who will be under center, it seems to know what it wants to do with him and also the back ups. This may be the most interesting position on the field for the Cowboys in 2015 not because of a battle for the starting job, but because the amount of talent is as deep as it's been in a while.

Departing Players

Daxx Garman

There's a lot to say about Garman on his stay in Stillwater. Not a lot of people knew Garman even existed going into the 2014 season other than he supposedly had a cannon and some thought him to be a unicorn. But somehow, Garman had found his way to be J.W. Walsh's primary back up. After Walsh went down Garman finally had his turn to shine. Cowboy fans got to see the rocket arm and it was nice at times, but the niceness ran out after a while. Garman played at a decent level for what he was given and with the bad offensive line play in 2014, that wasn't much. In the end he decided to transfer, probably taking his talents to a small Division I school or maybe even a Division II. His big arm will be missed, but maybe not that much.

Newcomers

John Kolar

John Kolar is supposed to be another star recruit the Cowboys have brought in, the fact he's from Norman should make it even sweeter should he pan out and be as good as his four-star rating says he is. Standing at 6-foot-4-inches, Kolar is a tall and skinny kid, weighing about the same as Ramon Richards. Richards is about four inches shorter. But Kolar should grow more once on campus and going through the college weight training. It shouldn't come to a surprise if Kolar redshirts this year with Walsh and Rudolph on the roster, but that's been said before. Barring injury, Kolar will be a project that should be worth it.

Returners

Mason Rudolph

Let this sink in. This is the first time since Weeden was in Stillwater that Cowboy fans know for sure who will be taking the first snap of the year come August for the team. Although his stats don't look all to thrilling at first sight (we did some weird math to make them look better), he led the team to a 2-1 record in three starts and outplayed Bryce Petty in his first game. This guy will be good. Want even better news? He bulked up over the winter, to about 220, or 240, depending on who you ask. Rudolph is thought to be the face of the Cowboys for hopefully the next three years. To do so, he'll have to avoid the sophomore slump, which starts now.

J.W. Walsh

Senior | 6-2 | 215 lbs

You have to feel bad for this guy. He's a great person and is pretty good at football as well. With Walsh last season the Cowboys nearly beat Jameis Winston and the Seminoles to open the year. Although J.W. Walsh is a lot, he's probably not the guy who is going to lead the Cowboys to a Big 12 championship. He is, however, a pretty good backup to Mason Rudolph. Gundy said there would be special packages for Walsh this year, which could mean some wildcat kind of things.

Taylor Cornelius

RS Freshman | 6-6 | 190 lbs

Cornelius, unfortunately for the fans, didn't get to see the field in 2014, earning himself the redshirt everyone thought would go to Mason Rudolph. He did get to take some second team snaps late in the season due to the injuries, but that shouldn't happen again this season. Cornelius is expected to be down the depth chart at or around the fourth quarterback the team would use if needed.

Carrying on with our Spring Preview: the Wide Receivers.

Despite struggling at times, Oklahoma State's passing game managed to amass 3,149 yards last season. Take away yards that came from the pass back to the QB, run-fat-guy-run, and to yards gained by running back and tight ends (Tyreek Hill falls into that running back category) and you get 2,510, the number of yards from wide receivers. Out of that production, Oklahoma State is returning an astonishing 99.56% (2,499 yards). With the play-makers setting themselves above the rest, be looking for a return to the explosive aerial attack that was lacking in the better part of last season.

Coming out of high school, Ra'Shaad Samples was a highly touted receiver who was allegedly faster than Justin Gilbert. However, after redshirting his first season and spending his second behind a slew of much more experienced players, Samples has stated that he will transfer to another school to continue his football career. As of now, it hasn't been announced as to where he will transfer.

Blake Webb

No formal announcement was made with Webb's departure, and it's still uncertain as to why he's no longer with the team. The only thing we know for sure is that he's no longer on the roster. However, he hasn't caught any passes since the non-conference games of the 2013 season.

Brandon Sheperd had a seemingly quiet season for what will be known as his "breakout" year. Against Missouri State, Sheperd broke free for an 87 yard touchdown and was a solid receiver all year heading into the final games against Oklahoma and Washington. His explosion in those games amassed 12 receptions for 254 yards and 3 touchdowns. His great hands, impressive vertical, and phenomenal moves will make him a big threat in the Big 12 next season.

I've always considered David Glidden to be Oklahoma State's not-so-secret weapon. With the most receptions and second-most receiving yards on the team, I expected him to be covered more than he was. But he was able to consistently lose his defenders out of the slot and become an all-over threat on the field. Look for Glidden to remain a staple of the inside passing game.

Despite being a true freshman out of a 1A high school, James Washington emerged as a play-maker early in the season after shredding Texas Tech's secondary for 87 yards and two long touchdowns. He also had spectacular catches against Baylor and Washington.

During his freshman season, Seales was one of the more reliable receivers in an extremely deep corps. However, he seemed to slip into a sophomore slump, dropping wide open passes and becoming unreliable at times. He also found himself in Gundy's doghouse hen he was found passed out in the Whataburger drive through. As a result, he lost his starting spot and a decline in playing time. The good news is that while he was struggling at times, he did make several impressive acrobatic grabs. Hopefully, he'll break out of his funk going into the next season.

Much like Jhajuan Seales, Ateman showed a lot of potential throughout his freshman season. Also much like Seales, he entered into a sophomore slump. After a couple of really good games against UTSA and Texas Tech, Ateman's production dropped off as he saw very little playing time for the rest of the season. He has the size to be a very good deep and vertical threat as we've seen him at times but he needs to get back into the groove and find his place in the rotation.

After a great freshman year, Hays has been fighting injury every season since, earning himself a medical redshirt off of one. When he's played, he's been a consistent and reliable receiver out of the slot. Hopefully, Austin can stay healthy the whole season and work his way back into the rotation.

CJ Curry has been fighting for his spot in the rotation for years and just maybe this is his year to get into the regular rotation after getting cleanup duty in 2014 against Missouri State and West Virginia.

Newcomers

Keenen Brown

RS Freshman | 6-3 | 205 lbs

Keenen Brown was a highly touted 3-star receiver out of Houston, Texas who spurned the likes of Florida, LSU, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas A&M, and Wisconsin to come to Oklahoma State. He just finished his redshirt season and will be looking to get into the rotation as soon as possible.

Cole Neph

RS Freshman | 6-3 | 205 lbs

Cole Neph was a 3-star out of Owasso, Oklahoma who was being recruited by Kansas State and UTSA before walking on at Oklahoma State. He too will need a breakout to get into the rotation but the good news is that he has the best hair for a football player I've ever seen. And yes, even better than Quinn Sharp's.

Up Next On The Spring Football Preview, The Cornerbacks

Oklahoma State had one of the worst passing defenses in 2014, allowing more than 60 percent of opposing team passes to be completed, the team will look to bring back the infamous "No Fly Zone." Although it wasn't horrid for the whole season, there were times when the defense would make fans scratch their head. With guys like Ashton Lampkin returning from a season long injury and Kevin Peterson continuing to improve, the Cowboys should have a better pass defense. However, that's not to say that those players are the automatic starters with recruits, transfers and returns all looking for playing time, this years pass defense might be fun to watch.

Offray joined the team as a freshman in 2014 and cemented a role on special teams and as a reserve. He played three games with the team and had a total of three tackles, so yes, that stat chart is correct. If you remember correctly, Offray was the other player with Jahjuan Seales in that Whataburger incident. Offray was kicked off the team not only because of this incident but there were other reports he had ran into some problems with coaches. Offray also said he wanted to transfer to another Big 12 school so he could play Oklahoma State again.

He's come a long way since that first interception in 2012 against Savanah State. Lampkin was supposed to be one of the key secondary players for the Cowboys last year but an injury against Tech killed that dream. Although the 2014 season ended early in dissapointment for Lampkin, this year has already started to look like it might be better after he was awarded a medical redshirt. Lampkin should be a solid starter if he can return to form. Summer-enrollee Michael Hunters' presence could provide a push for Lampkin.

Peterson was expected to be the anchor of the 2014 Cowboy defense. He did all he could, but the team was young and nearly every player showed weaknesses in areas. That's not to say it was a bad year, there were bright spots in his game, it just wasn't extremely consistent. However, he is still considered to be the No. 1 guy for the Cowboys at the position and is a solid player who's ceiling hasn't been reached yet even though he's considered one of the top in the conference.

Ramon Richards was sort of thrown into the fire last year as a freshman who came in as a two-star recruit and only weighed 180 pounds. Given that, he played fairly well in the pass-happy Big 12, that's not to say he didn't have some bumps. The highlight of his year in 2014 was the fact he was able to pick up three interceptions, one against Bryce Petty. Richards was also able to secure at least five tackles in every game after the West Virgina loss. He'll be one of the four corners on the roster in the fall who have starting experience and if he can bulk up and continue his growth on the field, Richards could become a key nickel player or even just a solid player to put in when Peterson or Lampkin needs a break.

Hardeman came into 2014 as a four-star freshman and didn't get a lot of playing time. But he got more than he would've gotten had some key players stayed healthy. The playing time Hardeman got in 2014 as a freshman should help him improve on the field and possibly grow into the player OSU thought he could be.

Jones hasn't seen a lot of playing time in his career here, but he's been a good player when needed. He's also listed as one of the faster players on the OSU roster, according to his bio on Okstate.com.
As a redshirt freshman, Curry didn't see much time, if any. Curry only appeared in the Iowa state, TCU and Kansas State games. Curry is another one of the players who you should watch going into spring practice who could make either a jump forward or a jump back.

Newcomers

Believe it or not there were no transfers or recruits at corner back that will be here for spring football. There is one player, though. Michael Hunter, the senior transfer from Indiana. He started two years there and figures to be a player to earn some playing time early on.

Next up in our position previews for spring football is the safeties

One of the somewhat disappointing units last season for Oklahoma state was the secondary. The Cowboys gave up 269 yards per game, ranking them 111th in the country. Part of the drop off in consistency was due to a fairly inexperienced safety core, with Larry Stephens being the lone senior that was a major contributor. New safeties coach Dan Hammerschmidt will look to restructure the depth chart with a group of players eager to bring stability back to the position. New signees Kevin Henry, Kenneth McGruder Za'Carrius Green (who might play star linebacker or safety) and Bryce Balous will join the team in the summer, but the returning players and newcomers will create plenty of competition for spots on the two-deep rotation at each safety position this spring.

Stephens came to Oklahoma State in 2010, and was an immediate contributor on special teams. He played in 10 games that year, and recorded 5 tackles and recovered a fumble against Washington State. In 2011, Stephens played in every game and logged 12 tackles including a season high 5 tackles against Kansas. Larry saw his numbers dramatically increase in 2012, as he racked up 16 total tackles including one tackle for a loss against OU. Stephens played in only one game in 2013 before suffering a season-ending injury. He was granted a medical redshirt, and made a strong comeback last season as a starting safety. Stephens finished 11th on the team with 41 tackles (27 total), had 3 pass breakups during the year, and recorded an interception against Baylor. Stephens was the lone senior that was a key fixture in the Safety rotation last season, and there will be several options from returning players to help replace his production.

Jeffcoat's story is truly inspirational as a student athlete. In 2011, Elliot decided to walk-on to the Cowboy football team, driving across the country from South Carolina to enroll and join the team. He didn't see the field until his sophomore year in the Lamar game and the Savannah State game and recording 1 tackle. In 2013, Jeffcoat saw action in one game against Lamar, recording one tackle. Last season however, Jeffcoat became a key contributor on special teams, recording 7 tackles in 5 different games. His biggest moment, and one that most OSU fans will remember, was a kickoff recovery on a botched special teams play by Iowa State which helped set up a touchdown before halftime.

Taking a look at the linebacking core heading into spring practice

One of the major question marks for the 2014 OSU Football season was the linebacker unit that was full of inexperience. The Cowboys were forced to play several freshman, and the young contributors were exposed at times in big games early. However, there were several players that emerged as stars toward the end of the year against OU and Washington, which set the stage for the Cowboys to be extremely deep at the position in 2015. Za'Carrius Green is the lone linebacker in this year's recruiting class that will join the team in the summer. Coach Spencer and staff have a very important spring ahead to see who will step up and take the spots on the depth chart for next season.

Furman transferred to OSU after playing three seasons at Michigan. The Cowboys were in desperate need of experience at linebacker last season, and getting Josh to come to Oklahoma State was huge for the defense. Furman seemed to struggle with the new defensive scheme early on, but quickly adapted to Coach Spencer's game plan and became a leader for the linebacking unit. Furman finished 4th on the team with 64 tackles (46 solo), and was 2nd on the team in sacks with 7. Josh also had an interception against Kansas, and was credited for 3 passes defended throughout the year. Fortunately for the staff, OSU returns a handful of experienced players at the position to replace Furman's production.

Simmons has been a key fixture at linebacker the last two seasons. After playing in 3 games his freshman year and recording 3 tackles, Ryan suffered a season-ending injury and was given a medical redshirt. In 2013, Simmons led his class with 23 tackles including a season high 7 tackles against Texas Tech. Ryan also forced a fumble against OU, and had 3 tackles for loss in the bowl game against Purdue. Simmons moved into the starting roll his sophomore year at outside linebacker, and ranked 4th on the team with 67 tackles (50 solo) and 9 tackles for a loss. Ryan also had an interception against UTSA, and had a season high 11 tackles against Iowa State. Last year, Simmons finished 2nd on the team in tackles with 96 (66 solo) including 11.5 tackles for a loss and 2 sacks. Ryan came up huge in the 4th quarter against OU with several key stops in the final stretch that gave OSU the opportunity to tie the game and come out victorious. Simmons will undoubtedly be one of the captains on defense next season, and should be among the team leaders in tackles once again as a starter in middle linebacker.

Jacobs was a highly recruited player out of high school, and he has certainly lived up the hype the last two seasons. After redshirting his freshman year, Jacobs played in 6 games 2013, recording 11 total tackles including a season high 4 tackles against Lamar. In 2014, Jacobs' roll increased dramatically, finishing 3rd on the team in tackles with 64 (6 for a loss) and recorded 2 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles. Seth did all of this while playing through a nagging shoulder injury, which earned him a ton of respect from the coaches and fellow teammates. Expect Jacobs to start next season at weakside linebacker, and produce even better numbers as a junior.

In 2013, Catlin saw an increase in playing time and totaled 13 tackles (10 solo) and played in every game except Texas. Catlin was expected to be a key contributor in 2014, but was ruled ineligible for the entire fall semester.
Whitener is a transfer from California, and had to sit out last season due to NCAA rules. The coaching staff has raved about his abilities in practice, and he looks to finally get his shot to compete for playing time this spring.

Star LB Brian Ciszewski

RS Freshman | 5-11 | 188 lbs

Ciszewski is a walk-on who redshirted last season, and will look to compete for playing time in the spring.

New Offensive Line Coach Greg Adkins takes the OL into spring ball | Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Next up in our spring position previews is the offensive line

The 2014 season was pretty rough for the offensive line. The Cowboys were starting life without long time coach Joe Wickline, and most of the experienced starters from 2013 had graduated. The Florida State game looked promising for the unit with J.W. Walsh at the helm, but when he was lost for the season the line struggled to protect a much less illusive Daxx Garman. Oklahoma State gave up a disappointing 40 sacks (3.08 sacks per game) which ranked 117th out of 125 teams. Toward the end of the season, the combination of players getting healthy with the insertion of Mason Rudolph led to better results for the offensive line.

New offensive line coach Greg Adkins will have his work cut out for him, as there will be several players looking to solidify their spot in the rotation this spring. Brandon Pertile and Devon Davis (both rehabbing from injury), Johnny Wilson, Vaimoe Sekona, and Marcus Keyes will all be joining the team in the summer, but there is still plenty of intrigue surrounding this group for spring ball.

Departing Players

Daniel Koenig

Following in his brother Doug's footsteps, Daniel Koenig redshirted his freshman year and developing into a contributor on the offensive line and special teams. Koenig started 11 games his sophomore year at right tackle, highlighted by a 12 knockdown game against ULL. In 2013, Daniel started 11 games again, beginning the season at right tackle and moving to left tackle later in the season. Koenig finished his senior year again as starter having to shuffle around some due to injuries.

Brandon Garrett

Garrett transferred to Oklahoma State from Trinity Valley Community College, and played in 11 games and started in four his junior year. Garrett broke his leg in the Cotton Bowl against Missouri, but returned to start game one against Florida State and was once again a key part of the offensive line rotation.

Chris Grisbhy

Grisbhy was another junior college transfer, coming to OSU from Blinn Community College. Chris played in two games as a sophomore, and saw a significant increase in playing time as a junior. He started 8 games that season and played in 11. Grisbhy was shifted between tackle and guard during the 2013 season. Last season Chris started out at guard, but was moved to tackle prior to the Baylor game to help shake things up with the line struggling.

Returning Players

Zach Crabtree

Sophomore | 6-3 | 290 lbs

Crabtree redshirted in 2013, and started last season before suffering an injury in the Iowa State game. Zach returned to his starting roll at left tackle for the Baylor game, which helped spur a much improved performance by the line. Crabree is the most probable candidate to start at right tackle opposite of Victor Salako next year.

Paul Lewis

Junior | 6-3 | 295 lbs

Lewis played in 6 games as a redshirt freshman in 2013, and started against Lamar. In 2014, Lewis started all but one game, but the coaches decided to give Lundblade a start when the line struggled during the season. Lewis and Lundblade should have quite a battle for the starting position this spring.

Michael Wilson

Junior | 6-6 | 300 lbs

Wilson played sparingly in 2013, after redshirting his freshman year. However, last season he started and played significant time, playing every position on the line by the end of the season. Wilson should be able to move back to guard with the arrival of Victor Salako.

Brad Lundblade

Sophomore | 6-3 | 290 lbs

Lundlade was a walk-on freshman last season, and shared time with Paul Lewis. Expect Lundblade and Lewis to have one of the more intriguing battles of the spring for the starting role at center next season.

Jesse Robinson

Sophomore | 6-6 | 310

After redshirting in 2013, Robinson didn't see the field until the Baylor game last season, where his play earned him the starting position against OU and Washington. Clearly, Jesse was a big part of stabilizing the offensive line late in the season, and that play should carry over to the spring where he should earn the starting role at guard.

Colby Hegwood

Senior | 6-5 | 320

Hegwood transferred to OSU in 2013 from Pearl River Community College. He saw action late in games against Iowa State and Kansas his sophomore year, and played sparingly last season. Colby will need to make a big impact in the spring in order to have a shot at significant playing time next season.

Newcomers

Victor Salako

Junior | 6-6 | 315 lbs

UAB transfer Victor Salako is easily the most important acquisition this year for the immediate future of the offensive line. Salako started in every game the last two seasons, and helped UAB average over 200 yards rushing a game in 2014. Salako arrived in time for Bowl practices in December, and was able to get a jump start on learning the offensive scheme. Expect Salako to win the left tackle position in the spring.

Matt Mucha

RS Freshman | 6-6 | 280 lbs

Mucha enters his first year of spring practice after redshirting in 2014. Mucha was a two time All-District Selection at Clear Lake High School in Seabrook, Texas, and held offers from Texas Tech, Arkansas State, Memphis and UCF. Matt made a strong impression on the coaches in practice last year, and should have a shot at playing time next season.

Lemaefe Galea'i

RS Freshman | 6-5 | 300 lbs

Lemaefe was a 3-star recruit in 2013, and was ranked as the 44th overall offensive tackle prospect by Scout. Galea'i held offers from Baylor, BYU, and Utah State, and was All State Honorable Mention his senior year. The OSU coaches considered pulling his redshirt when Zach Crabtree was injured last season, but elected to go a different route. Expect Lemaefe to be right in the thick of competition for playing time this spring.

Deionte Noel

RS Freshman | 6-3 | 300 lbs

Noel was listed as the 56th overall offensive guard prospect by ESPN a year ago, and was recruited by Texas Tech, Houston, Rice and Boise State. Noel is a bit of an unknown at this point, but should have a fresh start with new coach Greg Adkins and a chance to make his case for a spot on the two deep this spring.

Jack Kurzu

Sophomore | 6-4 | 305 lbs

Kurzu redshirted in 2013, and didn't see the field in 2014. He will need to have an impactful spring to have a shot a playing time next year.

Jaxon Salinas

Sophomore | 6-4 | 305 lbs

Salinas is another player that hasn't logged any time on the field, and will need to perform well this spring to improve his position on the depth chart.

Ogbah and Bean will lead the defensive line in 2015 | Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Continuing our spring football preview with the defensive line

Although the Cowboys experienced a roller-coaster season in 2014, the Defensive Line proved to be a stabilizing for force for the defense. OSU will be replacing valuable leadership on the line, as the unit will look quite a bit different heading into the spring. Signees Louis Brown, Darrion Daniels, and Taaj Bakari will join the team this summer, but there will still be plenty of competition between returning players as well as a few newcomers this spring.

Castleman was a contributor on the defensive line from day one, playing all 11 games as a freshman during the Cowboys' 2011 Big 12 Championship run. As a Sophomore, James started every game but one due to injury, and finished sixth on the team with 6.5 tackles for a loss. Castleman continued to develop as a key contributor in 2013, and his year was highlighted by a fumble recovery against Baylor that helped spawn a massive upset. Last season, James capped off another fantastic year with a memorable Cactus Bowl, which included a surprise appearance on offense. Castleman scored on a rushing touchdown in the first quarter, and caught a pass and rumbled down the field 48 yards when the Cowboys needed a play to put the game away. His leadership last season in a defensive unit filled with mostly underclassman was extremely valuable and will be missed.

DT Ofa Hautau

Hautau came to Oklahoma State from Snow College in Utah in 2013, and quickly became a fixture in the two-deep roster. He finished his first season with 8 tackles (2 for a loss) and a sack. In 2014, Ofa's numbers increase dramatically, as he started every game but one, and finished his senior campaign with 30 tackles (12th overall on the team) and 1.5 sacks. Like Castleman, the Cowboys will miss the leadership and experience Hautau brought to the defensive line.

DE Sam Wren

Sam Wren was another junior college transfer, and chose OSU over Arkansas, Texas Tech, Arizona State, and Oregon State. Wren played every game his junior year, finishing with 22 tackles and was credited with a half sack. In 2014, Sam ranked 13th on the team with 25 tackes (6 for a loss) and two sacks. Wren was a volatile piece in the 2014 defense that the Pokes will look to replace this spring.

Ogbah has been a force off the edge the last two seasons. After redshirting his freshman year, Emmanuel played in every game during the 2013 season, tallying 20 total tackles (15 solo) tying for the team lead with 4 sacks. In 2014, Ogbah put together perhaps the best season of any defensive player in the Big 12, finishing the year with 49 tackles (35 total), and tied for 11th in the country with 11 sacks. His outstanding sophomore performance earned him first team All-Big 12 honors by both the coaches and the media, and was also voted Defensive Lineman of the Year. Ogbah elected not to enter the NFL draft in January, and instead will help anchor what should be one of the leagues better defenses next year.

Bean appeared in only 3 games his freshman year, and was redshirted as a sophomore due to an injury he suffered before the season started. In 2013, Jimmy started every game at defensive end, finishing the year with 34 tackles and 5 sacks capped off by a big time performance in the Cotton Bowl with 7 tackles (3 for a loss) and a sack. Bean carried that success in to 2014, racking up 42 tackles (29 solo) and 3.5 sacks highlighted by an 8 tackle and 2 sack performance against Texas Tech. Last season, Clark finished 15th on the team with 17 total tackles (11 solo) and 2 tackles for a loss. Expect Clark to once again play a major role as a backup to Ogbah and Bean.

Maile was a huge get for Oklahoma State in the 2014 recruiting class considering the Cowboys are losing two starters in the middle of the line. Motekiai, ranked as the #33 JC Prospect by Scout, held offers from TCU, Mississippi State, Arizona State, North Texas and SMU. He was a first team selection to the All-Southwest Junior College Football Team last year after finishing with 54 tackles (10 for a loss) and 3 sacks his sophomore year. There is no doubt that Maile will be in the mix for the starting role next year at defensive tackle.

Brailford was highly touted out of high school, holding offers from Baylor, Texas Tech, Kansas State, and Washington State among others. Jordan's play his senior year earned him first team All-State honors by both the Tulsa World and Daily Oklahoman, and he also played in the Semper Fidelis All-Star game. Brailford was asked to play outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme which allowed him to roam in pass coverage and rush the passer often. Expect Jordan to be in the mix to earn a spot in the rotation this spring.

Trey Carter was another 4-star prospect out of high school, choosing OSU over OU, TCU, Oregon, Arkansas, Arizona State, Miami, Mississippi State, and Tennessee among others. Carter saw his senior season cut short due to an ankle injury, but not before he racked up 89 tackles (30 for a loss) and 15 sacks. Trey will be another player fighting for playing time next season.

Walterscheid was a multiple-sport athlete in high school, and also excelled as a receiver with 40 receptions for 976 yards and 12 touchdowns his senior year. With his athleticism and versatility, expect Cole to be a contributor on special teams and possibly see the field some at defensive end.

DE Jarrell Owens

Owens was originally a TCU commit before switching to OSU late, and held offers from Texas Tech, Louisiana Monroe, and Texas State. Owens looks to be a prime candidate to contribute on special teams, and could play his way into the defensive end rotation with a strong spring.

DT Ben Hughes

Hughes redshirted his freshman year, and didn't see action last season due to injury. A highly touted recruit in the 2013 class, Ben was a 4-Star prospect according to ESPN and held offers from Kansas State and Mississippi State among others. With the departures of Castleman and Hautau, expect Hughes to have a great shot at earning significant playing time next season.
