It was a tough weekend on campus at Oklahoma State University, and pretty much all thanks to the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Before handling the Cowboys on Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium, West Virginia crushed OSU's hopes in Morgantown for a chance at Big 12 soccer regular season title.
The Lady Mountaineers (13-2-2) slid by the Cowgirls, 2-1, in double overtime. Oklahoma State fell to 9-8-1 (4-2-1) after WVU's Kailey Utley scored the golden goal from 18 yards out. West Virginia defeated Oklahoma, 3-1, Sunday to seal the Lady Mountaineers third straight Big 12 regular season title and extend their winning streak to 14.
After the loss the Cowgirls were no longer in the title hunt with only one match left Friday night at Texas. OSU currently sits at third behind West Virginia and Kansas, who were Oklahoma State's only conference blemishes of the season.
The Pokes will still have a chance at Big 12 Tournament Title Nov. 5 in Kansas City. The Cowgirls made a run into the finals last season before falling to (who else), West Virginia.
