Oklahoma State’s women’s soccer team will kick off its 2020 season with a Bedlam clash against Oklahoma on Friday, Sept. 11 in Norman, the Big 12 announced Tuesday.
Each team in the Big 12 will play nine league matches each Friday starting Sept. 11 and ending Nov. 6, but makeup contests could continue past that date. Big 12 teams are not permitted to play non-conference opponents this fall.
The Cowgirls will play Iowa State in their home opener Sept. 18 at Neal Patterson Stadium for the first of five home matches. OSU has not released guidelines for allowing fans to attend home games.
OSU’s nine games will all start at 7 p.m.
The Big 12 ruled soccer along with football and volleyball as “high contact” sports that will have players tested for COVID-19 three times a week, according to the Big 12’s release Wednesday. If a student-athlete tests positive for coronavirus, they must go through an electrocardiogram (EKG), troponin blood test, echocardiogram and cardiac MRI.
OSU, the reigning regular season champion, was projected to finish second with three first-place votes and 70 points in the Big 12 preseason poll, as voted by the league’s head coaches. Texas Tech is the preseason favorite with six first-place votes and 72 points.
