The Oklahoma State wrestling team is the No. 4-ranked team in the country in the NWCA Division 1 Coaches preseason poll. The Cowboys and four-time reigning national champion Penn State were the only two D1 programs to go undefeated in dual competitions last season.
The Nittany Lions hold down the No. 1 spot with 12 first-place votes ahead of Iowa and Ohio State. The Hawkeyes received two first-place votes. The NWCA is voted on by two coaches from each wrestling conference.
OSU will face 10 of the top 25 teams this season, including six on the road: No. 2 Iowa, No. 11 Lehigh, No. 12 Iowa State, No. 13 Northern Iowa, No. 21 Oklahoma and No. 22 Wyoming. The Cowboys will host No. 7 Minnesota, No. 9 Missouri, No. 14 Pittsburgh, No. 15 Princeton and the Sooners again in a Bedlam home-and-home dual series.
The Big Ten, as expected, dominated the poll with eight of its 14 teams in the top 25. The Big 12 and ACC each had five teams, while the EIWA and MAC field three apiece. Eighth-ranked Arizona State is the lone Pac-12 member in the poll.
Big 12 members Utah Valley (11), North Dakota State (7) and Fresno State (6) also received votes.
The Cowboys start their season Friday, Nov. 15 at Drexel in Philadelphia.
