Travis, a two-time Missouri state champion for Fr. Tolton Regional Catholic of Columbia, visited Stillwater this past weekend and attend the Cowboy football team’s 34-27 win over TCU. He won his first state title at 120 pounds then moved up to 132 pounds this past season as a sophomore. During the summer he took seventh at the Junior World freestyle team trials at 61 kilograms (134 pounds).
It’s a big recruiting win for OSU over Missouri and not just because Travis is from Columbia. Three current Missouri wrestlers (Brock Mauller, Jarret Jacques, Jaydin Eierman) attended his high school and his father, Brooks, wrestled for the Tigers.
The younger Travis also trains with Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club coach Sammie Henson, who won back-to-back NCAA titles at 118 pounds in 1993 and 1994 at Clemson then transferred back to Missouri. Henson also won the the 1998 World Championships and took silver at the 2000 Olympics at 54 kilograms in men’s freestyle.
Travis was a teammate of OSU football commit Monroe Mills, who elected not to wrestle his senior season after tearing an ACL in one of his knees in August. Mills was 41-8 and took third at heavyweight in Class 1A as a junior, and will enroll early at OSU.
FloWrestling projects Travis to be at 149 pounds for the Cowboys.
