The No. 9-ranked Oklahoma State wrestling team will visit Bedlam rival Oklahoma on Sunday for the first time since 2016 at McCasland Field House in Norman.
The Cowboys have won 10 straight duals against OU, including last season’s 41-2 mauling in Stillwater. Sooners coach Lou Rosselli is 0-4 against OSU since he took over the OU program. Sunday will be the 178th meeting between the two storied programs, with OSU holding a 141-27-10 all-time lead in the Bedlam series.
OSU enters Bedlam off a 18-15 home dual win against then-No. 12 Princeton to improve to 3-1 this season. OU, however, has only wrestled in two duals and is 1-1 with a 29-7 win at Kent State and a 21-16 loss against Michigan State. The Sooners have competed in three tournaments, including the Cliff Keen Invitational where four Sooners placed.
The dual could feature three rematches at 125, 157 and 174 pounds. OSU’s No. 4 Nick Piccininni at 125 is 5-0 against Christian Moody, and Wyatt Sheets and No. 7 Joe Smith each have a win against their OU foes at 157 and 174, respectively.
Earlier this week, OSU coach John Smith hinted his son, Joe, and No. 11 Kaden Gfeller at 141 could make their season debuts Sunday. Gfeller would face No. 4 Dom Demas in the highest ranked vs. ranked match. If Gfeller does not wrestle, Dusty Hone will remain at 141. Andrew Shomers is 0-4 in dual action while filling for Joe.
The only known ranked vs. ranked matchup is a nice one at 197 with No. 6 Dakota Geer of OSU against No. 9 Jake Woodley.
