No. 2 Oklahoma State wrestling hosts No. 16 Northern Iowa

The No. 2-ranked Oklahoma State wrestling team will host two top-25 teams this weekend, with No. 16 Northern Iowa on Friday and No. 22 Lehigh on Sunday.

The Cowboys (10-0, 6-0 in Big 12) moved up one spot in the national rankings due to Ohio State’s loss to Michigan last week. OSU head coach John Smith can move into sole possession of fifth place for the most wins of any NCAA Division I coach with one win this weekend.

UNI (5-4, 5-0) brings five ranked wrestlers, which sets up two top-10 matches at 149 and 174 pounds.

No. 15 Kaid Brock faces No. 6 Josh Alber, whose four losses have all come against top-10 ranked guys at 149. Brock is coming off a 6-3 loss to No. 14 Ian Parker of Iowa State.

At 174, it’s the first of two top-10 matchups for No. 5 Joe Smith. The redshirt junior will face No. 8 Taylor Lujan, who is reigning Big 12 champion then he’ll meet No. 6 Jordan Kutler of Lehigh. Kutler holds a 7-1 decision win over Smith.

No. 10 Jacobe Smith also has two top-10 matchups this weekend, with No. 6 Drew Foster of UNI and No. 8 Ryan Preisch of Lehigh.

The Cowboys could also see the return of All-American Chandler Rogers at 165. The redshirt senior has weighed in last weekend against Iowa State, but didn’t wrestle as he works his way back from injury. If he does hit the mat, he’ll meet No. 12 Bryce Steiert of UNI. Rogers won the first meeting against Steiert.

At heavyweight, No. 2 Derek White will have a top-10 match against No. 6 Jordan Wood of Lehigh. White recorded a 3-2 win over Wood in last season’s dual against the Mountain Hawks.
