Alex Kauffman, a two-time National Junior College All-American at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, has announced he plans to wrestle for Oklahoma State.
Kauffman, who wrestled at 184 pounds the past two seasons, went 23-3 with five falls en route to a fourth-place finish at nationals as a sophomore under head coach Joe Renfro. The Vinita, Oklahoma product was fifth as a freshman.
Prior to NEO, Kauffman was a two-time Oklahoma state champion and three-time finalists under coach Monte Mattison at Vinita High School.
Kauffman has not used his redshirt, yet, and his signing is not official.
The Cowboys currently have four guys at the weight: All-American Dakota Geer, Bear Hughes, Andrew Marsden and Anthony Montalvo. Geer will start at 184 or he could bulk up to 197, where there’s an open spot with Preston Weigel graduating. Marsden, who will be a redshirt senior, has started at 197 on and off throughout his career. By Geer moving up, Kauffman — if he doesn’t redshirt — could compete with Hughes or Montalvo for the 184 spot.
