Oklahoma State redshirt sophomore Daton Fix heads to Lincoln, Nebraska, eyeing the 57 kilograms (125 pounds) spot on the United States’ men’s senior freestyle team for the World Championship.

Fix will wrestle 2017 world silver medalist Thomas Gilman of Iowa in a best-of-three series at Final X on Saturday at Bob Devaney Sports Center. It’s the second straight year the duo will square off after Gilman won last year’s series 2-0 against Fix, who ended up on the U.S.’ junior world team. Fix and Gilman are schedule to wrestle second to last in the second session at Final X at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Final X is the last leg of the USA Wrestling’s world team trials process. Men’s and women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers will grapple in best-of-three series to determine who will be on the U.S. team for the World Championship from Sept. 11-22 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

After finishing as the NCAA runner-up at 133 pounds this spring, Fix ran through the U.S. Open field in April in Las Vegas to set up a rematch against Gilman. Fix scored two takedowns in the final 20 seconds to claim the U.S. Open title and a spot at Final X. Gilman secured his spot at Final X by winning the World Team Trials last month in Raleigh, North Carolina.
