Oklahoma State redshirt sophomore Daton Fix will wrestle at 57 kilograms in men’s freestyle at the Pan-American Olympic Qualifier on March 15 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
It’ll be Fix’s first tournament since he went 2-2 at the first United World Wrestling Ranking Series event of the year, Matteo Pellicone International in Rome, Italy. Fix, who is taking an Olympic redshirt this season, won gold at the 2019 Pan-Am Games last August.
Fix is among 14 American athletes that will need to place in the top-two of their respective weight classes in order to qualify the weight for the United States to compete at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in August.
The USA has already qualified four weights—74 and 97kgs MFS, and 68 and 76 kgs WFS —based on medal-winning performances at the 2019 World Championships in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. Any weight the USA doesn’t qualify in Ottawa will have one more opportunity April 30-May 3 at the World Olympic Games Qualifier in Sofia, Bulgaria.
