Two Oklahoma State incoming freshman were named Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award winners for their respective states by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame on Thursday.
Konner Doucet of Comanche took the honor for the state of Oklahoma after a 50-0 senior season, which he ended with three first-period falls to win the Class 3A state championship at 220 pounds. He finished No. 8 in the country at 285 pounds and No. 89 overall, according to FloWrestling.
Alex Yokubaitis of St. Louis Catholic in Lake Charles, Louisiana, earned the award for his state. Yokubaitis, who was not ranked in FloWrestling’s top 100, went 47-2 this past season and won his fourth consecutive state title at 125 pounds.
The DSHSEA regional winners will be announced May 21 and the national winner be announced May 28. Daton Fix was the most recent OSU wrestler to win the national honor in 2017.
